2010 International Sculpture Symposium

Part of the First China (Tongling) International Copper Sculpture Exhibition, the 2010 program brought artists into direct collaboration with Xinjiuding’s model makers, metalworkers, and technical team. Together, they developed and realized 35 permanent public sculptures—from model refinement and full-scale fabrication to installation.

About the Symposium

Working at the Jiuding Creative Camp in Tongling, participating artists refined their models and resolved questions of scale, structure, material, and fabrication with Xinjiuding’s team. Each selected work then moved through full-scale production, finishing, and site installation while retaining the artist’s original visual language.

PROCESS

From Artist Model to Permanent Public Work

The program brought artistic development and production into one shared working environment, allowing ideas, models, materials, and fabrication decisions to evolve together.

On-site Creation & Model Development

Artists developed and adjusted their models on site, working directly with Xinjiuding’s team on proportion, scale, structure, and practical production requirements.

Full-Scale Fabrication & Finishing

With 35 distinct works moving through production, the team coordinated full-scale modeling, mold making, casting and metal fabrication, welding, chasing, patination, and final finishing.

Installation & Site Coordination

Completed sculptures were transported to their permanent sites, lifted into position, aligned with prepared foundations, and completed through on-site adjustment.

The finished works reflect a wide range of artistic approaches—from figurative and organic forms to geometric and structural compositions—realized through one coordinated production system.
