2012 International Sculpture Symposium

Part of the Second China (Tongling) International Copper Sculpture Exhibition, the 2012 program brought international selection, on-site creation, and full-scale production together at Xinjiuding’s creative base. Thirty-five selected works were developed and realized as permanent public sculptures in Tongling.

About the Symposium

Artists worked alongside Xinjiuding’s model makers, foundry specialists, and metalworkers to refine form, scale, structure, and production methods. The program connected creative exchange directly with fabrication, casting, finishing, installation, and a broader international symposium network.

PROCESS

From On-site Creation to Public Installation

The 2012 edition used a more integrated program structure, connecting artists, technical development, foundry production, and installation within one coordinated process.

On-site Creation & Technical Development

Artists developed their models at the creative base and worked with Xinjiuding’s team to refine proportion, scale, structure, and fabrication strategy.

Casting, Fabrication & Finishing

Selected works moved through full-scale modeling, mold making, bronze casting, metal fabrication, welding, chasing, patination, and final surface finishing.

Installation & Completion

Each work was transported, positioned, and completed on site as a permanent part of Tongling’s International Copper Sculpture Garden.

The 2012 works expanded the program’s formal and technical range, combining architectural structures, figurative forms, continuous curves, and open metal compositions.

ISSA Inaugural Meeting

The program also hosted the inaugural meeting of the International Sculpture Symposium Alliance (ISSA), bringing symposium organizers from different countries together in Tongling. Xinjiuding participated in initiating and supporting the alliance’s early development.
