CERAMIC SHELL LOST-WAX CASTING

Repeatable Casting for Detailed Bronze Works and Series.

For small- to medium-scale artworks, complex components, editions, and repeated works, we use a ceramic shell lost-wax process to reproduce form and surface detail while coordinating mold making, wax production, shell building, firing, and pouring as one continuous workflow.

A Flexible Lost-Wax Route for Complex Forms and Repeated Works.

WHAT IT IS

Flexible molds are used to reproduce wax patterns from the original model. The wax patterns are refined, assembled with gates and runners, and coated with successive layers of colloidal-silica-bonded refractory slurry and ceramic stucco to form a heat-resistant shell. After dewaxing and firing, the preheated shell is filled with molten bronze or another selected copper alloy.

We adapt the mold, wax, gating, and shell-building approach to the artwork, balancing detail reproduction with practical production across individual works, editions, and groups of related components.

Mold Division and Wax Reproduction

We develop flexible sectional molds and rigid support molds around the original model, planning mold divisions, seam locations, and wax reproduction according to the form, scale, and surface detail of the work.

Wax Refinement and Ceramic Shell Building

Wax patterns are produced, refined, gated, and assembled before receiving repeated coats of colloidal-silica-bonded ceramic slurry and refractory stucco. Each stage is coordinated to preserve surface detail while building a shell strong enough for dewaxing, firing, and metal pouring.

Firing, Pouring, and Production Coordination

Completed shells are dewaxed, fired, and preheated before pouring. Melting and casting are coordinated with the later removal of gates, cleaning, joining, chasing, and surface finishing already taken into account.
