INTERNATIONAL CREATIVE EXCHANGE
Hock Aun Teh Gallery Opening in Taiping

Art Returns to Everyday Life
On 19 September 2026, internationally recognised painter and sculptor Hock Aun Teh opened his modern art gallery in Asam Kumbang, Taiping, Malaysia. With a career spanning more than five decades and work held in major public collections, Teh brings an established international artistic practice back to his hometown. More than 130 guests from Britain, France, Canada, China, Singapore and Malaysia attended. Xinjiuding founder Zheng Dongping joined by invitation, meeting the artist and guests to exchange ideas about art, life and future connections between cultures.
01 · A HOME FOR ART
A Gallery in the Artist’s Hometown
Created within a detached villa known as “Dragon Palace”, the gallery presents decades of Hock Aun Teh’s painting and sculpture, including large modern paintings, bronze sculptures and works in steel. Some were made in Beijing, Germany, France, Switzerland and Britain, and have now returned to Taiping.
Having grown up in Taiping, Teh encountered Chinese ink painting and British watercolour before studying at the Glasgow School of Art. The gallery marks a new chapter in his artistic life and a renewed connection with his hometown: bringing art back into the spaces of everyday living.
02 · DIALOGUE THROUGH ART
Connecting Through Art
At the opening, Zheng Dongping shared his response to Hock Aun Teh’s work and invited the artist to bring his work to a sculpture symposium in mainland China. (Pictured: Hock Aun Teh on the left and Zheng Dongping on the right.)
The visit reflects Xinjiuding’s continuing commitment to international artistic exchange. Through conversations, shared experiences and the making of art, we seek to build relationships that continue beyond a single occasion.
“Hock Aun Teh’s works returning to the sunshine of Malaysia feels entirely in keeping with the way he creates and expresses himself. His work is inseparable from his life, his way of living and his passion—it is alive. Art does not need to be understood; it needs to be felt. I have invited him to bring his work to mainland China and present it at a sculpture symposium.”Zheng Dongping · Xinjiuding founder

03 · SHARED MOMENTS
Gathering in Taiping
Artists, guests and friends came together among the works, sharing a moment that connected an international artistic journey with the artist’s hometown.
We believe that copper, like art, can connect people across languages and cultures. This shared language of making and feeling continues to guide our international exchanges.
