Wētā Workshop Visit & Creative Exchange
A Visit to Xinjiuding
Wētā Workshop’s imagination and attention to detail give us plenty to think about in our own workshops. Our collaboration draws on Xinjiuding’s experience in sculptural modelling, bronze casting and finishing, while encouraging us to question familiar methods and consider other ways of working. During their visit to Tongling, we looked at models and finished pieces together, comparing approaches and discussing the details. We value the trust they place in our team, and what we learn from their different approach to the work.
Wax Models and Bronze
We showed our visitors wax models and finished bronzes in the workshop and gallery. As they picked up the models and examined them closely, we talked through our casting process and the care needed to preserve the character and detail of the original model in bronze.
Talking About the Work
From a large sculptural installation to smaller pieces in the gallery, we looked at the work together and discussed how it had been developed. Their questions brought a different perspective to familiar pieces, while having the sculptures in front of us let us explain the choices behind them.
Over Tea
There was time to sit down over tea, too. Away from the workshop, we carried on talking, shared a few laughs and got to know our guests a little better.
